NX with the Points@ ribbon tab. The Rib holes set (20 points) was just added with Apply and shows in the Part Navigator and on the plate; the dialog is ready for the next file (B3, XY, 8 points found). Click to zoom.

What was asked

An efficient way to import, export and replace points in a 3D model from an Excel sheet of XYZ coordinates: a chosen starting cell, coordinate system and point count on import; every point group listed with its name, count and path on export; a named set swapped out on replace.

What it does

  • Import: an Excel file, a starting cell, XYZ / XY / YZ / XZ and a point count. It counts the points before you commit; OK adds them and closes, Apply adds them and stays open.
  • Export: Retrieve All lists every point set with its Name, Points and Path; pick one or more and write .xlsx (one worksheet per set) or .csv.
  • Replace: the Import options plus Body/Set Name, the set whose points are swapped. It keeps its name and place in the model history.
  • Mistakes are refused, never half-done, and each operation is one Undo.

Replace: the revision B file (6 points) is about to replace the 20 points of Rib holes.
Export: Retrieve All lists Rib holes (6, after the replace) and Spar (8) with their paths; both selected.
